50th Reunion - June 1-4, 2006 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
SATURDAY NIGHT DINNER DANCE 6:00 PM again found us gathered at the Sonesta Reception Hall renewing old friendships with 206 classmates and guests. The Sonesta ballroom tables were beautifully decorated by Rhona Berube Chabot and the food was great. Judi Anderson Josephs and her professional singing group, “Hot Cocoa”, started the evening off with a round of old favorites…a number of classmates couldn’t resist dancing to the music. Cary Findlay introduced the attending 116 Classmates and recognized several for being married for nearly 50 years to classmates: John Brockway and Pat Ussery; Rosalie Tipton and Bill Erwin; and Bob Valois and Ruth Skacil. Eight classmates were “welcomed” to their first reunion and roundly chastised. A number of grandparents (and some great grandparents) were also recognized and allowed to brag for a few minutes. Rev. Carl George performed the invocation and told the group what Gables had meant to his life as a minister. Anne Jensen Harper read a poem she had written after attending the 30th Reunion. The poem is on page 98 of this Booklet. Door prizes including an oil painting by Sue Hays Campbell, a week at a Cape Canaveral condo by Laura Kavalir Wright and two vases by Beth McDonald Johnston were given to classmates. Dance music was performed by The Surf Dudes, arranged by Gordon Ettie, and the evening was spent table hopping to see old friends…some from as far away as California and Idaho. No one had changed…much.
