UNCLE JAY SINGS THE NEWS

A LOOK BACK AT 2008

Thanks to Bill Sutton for passing along this clever look at the past year.

A sidebar from Stewart Harnell tells us this is his cousin. His cousin was a Judge in the 5th circuit Court of Appeals,
a commander in the US Navy, Dean of Law at Indiana University
and now a song writer/singer. He is also a great guy!

ANOTHER ONLINE OLDIES JUKEBOX

Just type in any song that was ever played, and see what happens.
Then, following the end of the song, it will keep playing songs of the same era forever.

After serious and cautious consideration, Your contract of friendship has been renewed for the New Year 2009!

Our Wishes for You in 2009:

May peace break into your house and may thieves come to steal your debts.

May love stick to your face like Vaseline and may laughter assault your lips!

May your clothes smell of success like smoking tires.

May happiness slap you across the face.

May your tears be that of joy and may the problems you had forget your home address!

In simple words . . . May 2009 be the best year of our lives!!!

"COACH NICK KOTYS MEMORIAL SCOREBOARD"

As you may recall, at the 50th Reunion of the Gables Class of 1956, we were informed that $5,000 was needed to complete the funds necessary for a scoreboard honoring Coach Kotys. This scoreboard is to be located at the high school athletic field. A number of our classmates made contributions to fulfill this goal.

We are informed that the scoreboard has been built and is in storage until the necessary electrical equipment is installed at the field.

The Gables High Athletic Department is to let us know when the ceremony is scheduled to commemorate the erection of the scoreboard in honor of Coach Kotys.

For those who made a contribution, thanks for your support. We will keep everyone posted as to the ceremony.

ZORRO RIDES AGAIN

FYI, Turner Classic Movies will be running chapters of the Republic serial "Zorro Rides again" on Saturday mornings in January.
This one was made before we were around (1937), but it will still bring back memories of the Saturday matinees at the Coral and South Miami theatres.

Heart Attacks: Some Advice

Heart Attacks And Drinking Warm Water...

For those who like to drink cold water, this is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and can lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

Common Symptoms Of Heart Attack...

A serious note about heart attacks - You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know the better chance we could survive. A cardiologist says if everyone who reads this message shares it with 10 people, you can be sure that we'll save at least one life. So please be a true friend and share this article withall the family and friends you care about.
